DIY ~ Pillowcase Mini Skirt

I often buy pillow cases on sale if I love the pattern of them because they can be turned into some amazing things!

I have had this one for a while and cut a small bit out to do a patch on Tally's jeans.

So I used the rest to make this super easy, super cute skirt.

Start by measuring from your waist to your thigh where you want the length to go to.
Add 1.5 inches to the top and 1 inch to the bottom.
So your adding a total of 3.5 inches to your length measurement.

Cut to your pillowcase across the top sewn part just to remove the seam.
Then cut the correct length with the extra you need for seam allowance.

Turn your pillowcase tube inside out and iron flat.
Then iron your bottom hem.
Roll and iron one half inch, then another half inch and pin as you go.
On the top, roll a half inch down then 1 inch down to make a pocket for your elastic waist.

Pin and sew leaving a gap so you can insert your elastic.

Sew all your seams flat once sewn.

To insert your elastic, use a large safety pin and fish it through your waist band making sure not to lose your end.

Sew the two ends of your elastic together with a zig zag stitch.

There you go...cute little mini!

Happy Blogoversary to Me!!!

It's our (meaning me and my puppy Chuck Norris) Blogoversary today!!!

It totally crept up on me this year!
Year 2 and still going strong, I ahve to say I'm super proud of myself.

My blog has definately changed a lot over time.
It has evolved into a DIY blog with tonnes of tutorials and ideas to help you get your crafting adventures going!
I try to do a bunch of different things and then I post them in my shop to sell after (just in case you don't have time to actually make it yourself)

Thank you to all my wonderful followers (186 wow!!! How did that happen?!?) who have always cared, left lovely comments and supported my blog and shop.

To an even better 2013!!!

DIY ~ Decopage Candle Holders

I haven't done this in years and I totally forgot how pretty they are!

First you need a clear glass of any shape or size.

Put a thick coat of mod podge on one side of the glass.

Layer small squares of tissue in the color you desire.
Slightly overlap the squares.

Put another coat of mod podge over top until all the tissue looks wet.

Keep going all around your glass.
I used 3 different colors on each one.

Put a ta light in them and they are stunning!

I have a couple in my shop for sale here!

DIY ~ Rice Bag Scarf

My bestest neighbor friend's hubby's birthday was yesterday.
She asked me to make him a heat bag to walk their dog!
He has an old one from my shop, but it is wearing out after 2 winters!

I thought I would make him a super long one so it could wrap around his neck like a scarf!
It turned out amazing!

First measure two pieces of fabric the same size measureing 30 inches by 8 inches wide.

Iron fabric good sides together and sew leaving a hole at one end to reverse.

Reverse long recatangle and iron seams flat.

In the open hole end, add your rice.

I used 1 cup of rice for each pounch and I measured each pouch at 3.75 inches.

Put your first cup of rice in.
Using clothes pins, hold the rice down so you can sew a seam to make that block.

Repeat until you are finished making all your blocks.

Sew up open end.

Ta da - your done.
So warm and cozy...I'm gonna make myself one now :)))

Happy Birthday Dave!!!!

Hawaiian Adventures ~ Breakfast Time

We went to a beautiful little spot called The Gazebo for breakfast one morning.

The wait was about 20 minutes, but it was well worth it.

The food was to die for and the view was equally spectacular!

Isn't the whale sign cute??

Isn't my Logan soooo cute!
Luckiest Aunty ever!

DIY ~ Chuck's New Dog Coat

Chuck Norris is way to big boned for dog coats.
I have even tried the XL size, but Beagles have such thick chests, they never fit.

I have wanted to make him one for a while, and I finally got to it!

YOU NEED:
1 meter fleece fabric
1 meter flannel fabric
co-ordinating thread
sewing machine
Velcro
scissors
tissue paper
pen

Start by measuring the length of your dog.
I went from the back of his neck between his ears to the tip of his tail.
I wanted to have a collar I could fold down or pull up.
Now measure the width of him at his largest spot.

Using folded in half tracing paper, measure the length you need and half the width you need.
Make marks on the tissue to show where.

Draw a shape like this:

Using the patters cut out the fleece and the flannel in that shape.
Also cut two straps 2.5 inches wide by the length you need to go around your dos chest.

Sew the two coat layers together, right side to right side, leaving an open hole so you can then flip it inside out.
Iron flat the seams.
Do the same for the straps.
You can top stitch again around the edges now for a more professionally made look.
(That's what I did)

Using pins, fit the coat fleece side down around your dog and pin the straps where needed.
I did one below his neck and collar across his upper chest, then one past his legs on his upper
belly(ish).

Using a zigzag stitch on your machine sew the straps on one side.

Measure where your Velcro is needed and sew it into place.
I used three strips for each strap for an extra strong hold.

Isn't Chuck Cute?

He actually really loves it!!!

Awwww....
love ya big guy!

DIY ~ Tissue Heart Art

This one is a little time consuming, but I love the way it turned out!!!

First paint your canvas black or white (which ever you prefer)

Once dry, tape off your canvas to make stripes.

Paint the available spots the opposite color (black or white)

Take a pale colored pencil crayon and draw a heart lightly onto your canvas for a guide.

Take small tissue circles in two shades of pink and wrap on the bottom of a pencil.
Dip flat end in mod podge and stick inside your heart guide.

Continue with many many tissue squares until your whole heart is filled in.

So cute eh???
If your interested in purchasing this lil' gem...its in my shop :)

PL Peek ~ Welcome Home Snow

When I got home for my hot holiday to Maui there was a very rude awakening for me.

We had probably gotten about 3 feet of snow.
Not cool Mother Nature, not cool.

If you have read my past Personal Life Peek posts, you know, I love snow.
Skiing, Tobogganing...making snowmen.
But when your trying to drive home at 1am to see your favorite 2 boys (meaning Tally and Chuck) you do not want there to be 3 feet of snow.

It's beautiful, but very unwelcoming.

FYI ~ Chuck is not going to the bathroom here...he is sniffing other puppy prints...LOL

So pretty - but very cold to the balmy 30+ degrees it was in Maui!

Cheers,
Messy
