DIY ~ Kitchen Curtain

Here is a super quick and easy way to make a curtain for any window.
I needed one when my old house was on the market so I could get rid of some hideous shutters.
First, measure your windows width and length.
Second, find a piece of fabric that is big enough and matches your decor.
Third, cut one large rectangle to the measurements you took adding a 1/4 inch to each side for hem, and 1 1/2 inches extra on the top.

Fourth, with an iron press your seams over twice and show (do not to top seam yet)
Fifth, roll your top edge down once 1/4 inch, then again over one full inch. Sew right across so you have a tube at the top.

Sixth,  sew at the very top of your tube 1/4 inch down. This will create a nice ruffle on top.
Lastly, insert your rod into your curtain tube on top and put up in your window!
Ta da!!!

This Is How I Cook: Quinoa Bites

I found this recipe here on pinterest but it comes from the blog So Very Blessed.
I put this appy out for my Margarita Party cause Friend Number One can't have gluten!
(So annoying - but love her so much I make new things LOL)

I personally hated them, found them really dry and hard to eat...
but all my guests loved them. Raved about them actually.
I tried making them again and I added and changed it a bit to make them more tasty. LOL
Now...these are good eats!!!

YOU NEED:
  • 2 cups cooked quinoa
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded carrot
  • 2 stalks green onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup cheddar cheese
  • 2 Tbs all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • dash of hot dried chilli's

1. Make your quinoa in a large pot as per package instructions.
2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
3. Once your quinoa is fully cooked, mix together quinoa, carrot, egg, green onion, garlic, cilantro, parmasen, chedar cheese, flour, onion powder, chilli's, salt and pepper.
3. Distribute mixture into a greased mini muffin tin, filling each cup to the top (1 heaping Tbs each).

4. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
Enjoy!

Miss Travel McTravelson ~ Nice, France

My first stop in France was Nice.
(Say neeeeesssssss)
It was very relaxing despite the fact that my room was so small there wasn't even enough floor room to keep my bag on the ground. LOL
The weather was very chilly while I was there, but compared to Turkey, I guess anything is cold.

I went to the circus one night which I really enjoyed.
The animal acts were fantastic!!!

I spent a lot of time in the back alley stores and Indian restaurants.
There was also this cafe in the town center that had the best spaghetti
(Not as good as Italy of course...)

While I was there I took a day trip to Monaco too!
That's up next week :)

Outfit Post ~ Concert Style

As you all know I went to my friend's concert a while ago and it was amazeballs.
I love his band Rococode.

Anyhoo..
I wiped out my hot new red jeans for the occasion!
I hadn't worn them - and damn they looked fine!
(If I do say so myself! ha!)

I absolutely love the lace cutouts on the shoulders of this top!!!
It is so soft and comfy too!

A few years ago I met my family in New York City for Christmas! It was amazing!!!
All us ladies bought ourselves a pair of ridiculously priced "New York" Shoes! :)
These are mine and I adore them! (Just wish they were a little comfier!)

My red jeans definitely make this outfit! LOL

PL Peek: Dance Competition

I had a fabulous weekend! ;)
I went to the Shine Dance Competition in Kingston, Ontario with my kidlets.
All day Friday and Saturday were spent watching students dress up, get ready, stretch, stress, have minor meltdowns, get so nervous they want to die/pee their pants/passout or crap themselves and then kill it on stage. :)
MISS SHELLEY IS SOOOOOOO PROUD OF EVERY ONE OF YOU!!!
Love you guys. xoxo
We got some great scores and some not so great scores.
My favorite number went off amazingly, they were together, the choreography looked great, spacing was bang on, noone forgot the steps....
and we got gold.

This is a low score...
GOLD - HIGH GOLD - PLATINUM - DIAMOND.
I am very anxious to see what the comments from the adjudicators are.
Too ballet not enough modern?
Wrong category?
These are the only things I can think of.
I have to admit.
I was pretty upset.
I went to my car and had a little scream and held back tears.
I was counting on this number. :(
Oh well, maybe they will tell me what they didn't like and we can fix it before next competition.
You win some, you lose some.
I will say, we did have people standing in the audience, other dancers were telling there parents when we were waiting to go on that they HAD to see our number.
The place was packed...and it sounded like everyone loved it.
We love it.
Ok enough, enough, enough.
I will make sure to let you all know what the adjudicators said when I find out this week :)
Fingers crossed it just needs to be changed categories.

We had loads of other dances too that we did really well on, and now I feel bad about venting. {sigh}
Moves Like Jagger is one of my favorites :)

Tyler and all his awards! He did so well this competition!!! :)

Jump For Your Love! Jessa & Erica!!!

Etsy Love ~ Rugged Rugs

I am going to need a rug in my cabin.
This excites me. LOL
Is that weird?
I thought I was sold on getting a chevron one, but then I started browsing Etsy and saw all these lovely rugs.
Which rug do you think I should get??

4ft Handmade Mega Doily Rug

Round Rope Rug 2' Diameter Throw Rug or Wall Decor Nautical Decor

Woven area rug in a Modern and Classy black and white Chevron stripe in 4 ft by 6ft

Fantastic Danish Modern Starburst Rya Rug. 6 Feet x 4.5 Feet

Sunny Antique Kerman Persian Rug

Hand-knotted, hand-dyed Tibetan Wool Rug - Double Dorje Design

I already have a beautiful hand pulled rug from Tuckey I bought while I was there.
But it was too expensive to have it on the grouund, so I hang it as a wall hanging. :)

So help me out here peeps...

DIY ~ Who Wears Short Shorts?

As we all know I am trying to spring clean and get ready for the big garage sale coming up soon.
I had to get rid of some jeans and I thought "I should make my faves into shorts".
I have two pairs of jeans I have had since 2001.
I adore them and they are so worn and comfy.
But they are gross at the bottom and are a weird old cut...
so why not upcycle them???
First get a pair of shorts that you love the legth of.
Match it up and cut to the length you want.

The first pair I just cut and made some major holes in.
Second pair I added some pretty lace to "countrify them".

Just pin the lace in place around the leg holes on the inside of the short leg. I tapered mine in the center cause I know the lace would bug me on the inside of my thighs.
Then sew!
After, wash your shorts and dry them in your dryer.
This will fray they edges a bit.
Cute eh?
I think so.

Messy

Miss Travel McTravelson ~ Instanbul, Turkey

I'm starting to get near the end of my European travel posts :(
{sigh} Such an awesome trip!
Next up were leaving Greece and heading to Turkey! :)

This s BY FAR my favorite place on my whole trip.
Despite the fact that it rained for the first 2 days.

Maybe it's because it's what I imagine India to be like and since I have East Indian, I've always wanted to go and find out about my heritage and religion.
Anyhoo...
Istanbul is a magical place.

It is so busy all the time, women are completely covered and modest, men stare at you, people are constantly asking you if you want to buy something (even if it's the groceries they just bought) and the food is AMAZEBALLS!!!
I spent 2 full days in the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar shopping and exploring.

(This is my favorite photo purely cause this guy is checking me out LOL)

I bought tonnes of cool stuff including a hand painted pot holder, a piece of artwork painted on an old page of their bible, and 3 lantern stained glass lamp and my number one most coveted item of my life...
MY TURKISH RUG!!!
I walked around so much visiting all the big mosques and eating tonnes of food.
It was one of the best travelling experiences of my life.
